Thank you for coming out here and
teaching these kids. A great time was had by all. As
kids left that day we heard them talking to their parents
about what they learned. Your message was effective
on all the kids!

is terrific for children to learn how they are important

class such a wonderful morning, Wed., at Primrose!!
The children learned so much about staying safe in a
way they could understand. The video was entertaining
and informative at the same time! We ALL loved McGruff,
(even the teachers). We hope you come back to visit
us soon!! The parents were amazed that they got the
ID packages so quickly!! Best of luck to you! You are
doing a Super job!!

Hello! You don't know me, but I'm just like
YOU. I live in a nice, quiet subdivision where the things
we hear on the news are far removed, and you view it with
a detachment born of complacency. That it only happens
to OTHER PEOPLE... well, I'm here to tell you that, yes,
IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU, and when you least expect it and
your life is turned upside and your emotions inside out.
Let me tell you my story...
A Friday night, no so many months ago, I phoned home to
let my mother and granddaughter know where I was and about
how much longer until I was home, just like every other
workday afternoon. When I pulled into the garage my mother
came out of the inside door and not my granddaughter,
which was the first indication that something was up...and
it wasn't good. The dialogue went something like this...'Had
I seen my granddaughter outside waiting for me? No...
I've checked inside, but she's not here... How long since
you've seen her? Don't know, just after you phoned'...
'She can't have gone far...she's barefoot.' It had been
about twenty minutes at this point since my call home
and pulling into the driveway. I asked what she was wearing
(I leave early in the morning before anyone is up and
had no idea of knowing) and headed across the street to
her friends house. I saw their SUV in the driveway and
thought someone was home, but no answer to my knocking
or ringing of the doorbell except for their dog barking
at me. I tried the next door down because I had seen them
out when I was driving down the street. Nothing. I then
ran back home, changed my clothes and tried her little
friends house again...nothing, just the dog barking at
me, so I took off up the neighborhood to the next couple
that I had seen out when driving through the subdivision
and then after a 'no, we didn't see anyone' I went around
to the church property near us where I met up with my
mother coming up from the elementary school directly across
from the church...nothing...at this point you CANNOT IMAGINE
the horrible things going through your mind and I could
only think that too much time had passed and we needed
to call the police NOW. My poor mom was distraught because
this had happened on her watch....Long story short, we
phoned the police and the first car pulled into our cul-de-sac
not five minutes after I closed my cell phone...followed
by at least ten others (I CANNOT say enough GOOD THINGS
about our Kennesaw police). I had given her description
over the phone, but as the police officer was asking me
all of that information again, I remembered that I had
the McGruff ID taken when she was attending Preschool...I
ran inside and grabbed it and gave it to the police. They
were able to transmit this to the police in the neighboring
counties, plus the helicopter that was not flying over
the area... It was such a relief to be able to hand that
little piece of laminated paper over to the police so
that they had everything...her photo, her height, weight,
color of eyes, hair color and fingerprint... to NOT HAVE
to TRY and GIVE a VISUAL, but PROVIDE ONE and have that
information sent into each and every patrol vehicle and
police department in the area...
After two and a half hours of unbelievable worry, fear,
prayer and anguish my little darling peeped her head out
of the neighbors front door (yes...the one I had been
to twice, and where I have found out since that people
had been calling leaving messages about her disappearance
and to be on the lookout) just after we received word
that they were sending the search and rescue dogs from
the next county... The relief was like a tsunami rolling
over me. Totally emotionally drained...but so grateful
to have my sweet princess back... She had been playing
dress up in her friends room for those two and a half
hours while the family was gone, completely oblivious
to anything else. She had let herself and their dog in
through their back door (the dog was in the backyard,
but he knew her, so no problem and she wasn't afraid of
him) and the rest, as they say, is history.
The one thing that I cannot stress is the one, very important,
thing that I was so glad I had done and will do again
in a heartbeat, the McGruff program. Won't happen to you?
Hopefully not, but do you really want to take the chance
with something as precious as your child? Grandchild?
Niece? Nephew? Trust me. I've been there, have the t-shirt
and don't want another one...but, if God forbid I have
to, I'm going in armed and giving the authorities every
possible advantage that I can.
If you're thinking about taking advantage of the program...STOP
thinking...just DO IT...don't EVER put yourself in the
position of IF ONLY... yes, our story had a happy ending,
but a lot of stories don't...God is Good, but a little
help from you sure can help! Love your kids? Then don't
think twice...show them just how much.
If you're still reading...thank you for taking the few
minutes to finish our story and I truly pray that you
will take part in this program...YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE
AND EVERYTHING TO GAIN!!! And for the record....I ASKED
if I could give this testimonial. I wanted the people
that lead this program to know how much of a Godsend it
is and how great it was to us and to let parents, caregivers
everywhere know that you just NEVER know and it just doesn't
always happen to someone else. Eventually, you're that
someone else.
GOD BLESS,
A Truly Thankful Grandmother |
